Andrew S. Islam, MD
Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
Andrew Islam, MD is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. Dr. Islam has studied at world-renowned facilities and has been selected as one of the Top Doctors in Cincinnati. He provides specialized care to athletes of all levels, from the weekend warrior to professional athletes.
Dr. Islam is a native of Dayton, OH, where he attended Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School. He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at Case Western Reserve University. He also obtained his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, while simultaneously completing a Master of Science in Applied Anatomy. During his residency training, Dr. Islam spent an extra year in the laboratory of Edward M. Greenfield, PhD, dedicated to researching molecular signaling mechanisms of orthopedic implant loosening.
Upon completing his residency, Dr. Islam pursued a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he learned from leaders in the fields of shoulder, elbow, and knee arthroscopy and gained extensive experience in the specialized care of athletes. Dr. Islam's research has been presented at national meetings and published in highly respected journals including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Orthopedic Research and Journal of Cell Physiology.
In addition to his training, Dr. Islam has also assisted in the care of several athletic teams. He served as a team physician for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and John Carroll University. He also assisted with team medical coverage for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Dr. Islam currently serves as the team physician for Sycamore Junior and Senior High Schools.
