ACL Reconstruction & Repair
ACL tears are among the most common knee injuries, particularly for athletes. Though nonsurgical methods may help to manage symptoms, a torn ACL will not heal without surgical intervention. Traditionally, the torn ACL is reconstructed using a tissue graft. However, Dr. Islam is one of the few orthopaedic surgeons offering ACL reconstruction, in which the torn tendon is reattached without the use of a tissue graft. If ACL repair is an option, it may lead to quicker recovery times than ACL reconstruction surgery. Dr. Islam will work with you to determine which procedure is best for your needs and lifestyle.

Rotator Cuff Repair Surgery
Rotator cuff tears can result in significant shoulder weakness. Not all patients will need surgery to correct this problem, but if nonsurgical treatments are not effective, rotator cuff repair surgery may be recommended. Dr. Islam performs a high volume of rotator cuff procedures each year, and teaches surgical techniques to other orthopaedic surgeons. If surgery is needed, it can be done on an outpatient basis using arthroscopic techniques.

Total Shoulder Replacement
Conditions like arthritis can cause severe pain and stiffness in the shoulder, often interfering with your everyday activities. If nonsurgical arthritis treatments do not relieve your symptoms, total shoulder replacement may be an option. During this procedure, the damaged joint surfaces are replaced with prosthetic components to relieve pain and improve range of motion in the shoulder. In addition to total shoulder replacement, Dr. Islam is also trained in reverse total shoulder replacement, a procedure that may help patients who have arthritis and a rotator cuff injury in the same shoulder.

Stem Cell & Biologic Therapies
Dr. Islam offers stem cell and biologic therapies in his practice to help patients with orthopaedic injuries avoid or delay the need for surgery, and to promote healing in patients who have had surgery. Dr. Islam offers several biologic therapy options, including platelet-rich plasma injections, bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) injections, amion treatments, and stem cell injections. These treatments can help to stimulate tissue healing, which may lead to quicker recovery.
